Team Spotlight: Meet Darrell Johnson, the Leader Behind Forium's Warehouse Operations

When Forium Solutions went looking for someone to help open a new warehouse in Talmo, GA they reached out to Darrell Johnson to ask if he knew anyone who might be interested. His answer was simple: "Yes. I would be the one."

That was in May 2022. Since then, Darrell has taken Forium's warehouse from a half-poured slab to a 226,800 sq. ft. facility that runs smoothly and serves clients across the nation.

Decades of Retail and Supply Chain Leadership

Darrell began his career in retail and worked his way up through store, district, and corporate management. He then moved into supply chain and warehouse operations with companies like Best Buy, Cambria, and Bed Bath & Beyond. Along the way, he became the person companies trusted to get new operations up and running, which is exactly what Forium needed.

Building Forium's Warehouse from the Ground Up

Darrell joined Forium while the new building was still under construction. He oversaw the project through completion. He also wrote the warehouse's operations manual, built on Responsible Distribution, which the team still uses today and updates every year. After that, he led the team through the move into the new facility.

That manual covers safety, efficiency, and productivity, and it's built around the company's purpose: Be a Blessing to Others and Inspire Others to Be a Blessing as Well.

"That is the purpose of the company," Darrell says, "and the guiding principle whole thing for everything we do here at the warehouse."

Running the Building Like an Owner

Darrell's team handles client contracts, pricing, invoicing, hiring and coaching, vendor relationships, and facility maintenance.

As a 100% employee-owned company, Forium asks every team member to think like an owner, and Darrell leads that way. "If you owned this company outright," he asks, "how would you approach this situation?"

That mindset carries into how the facility is maintained. Material handling equipment, dock doors, levelers, locks, and HVAC get serviced every quarter. Fire systems are tested every quarter, and fire pumps are run every month. "We look at it as if it's our own house, our own property," he says, "and how would we want to present that to the outside world?"

Accuracy You Can Trace

Every product that comes into the warehouse is received by item number and lot number. That means any lot can be tracked in the WMS from the day it arrives to the day it ships.

When mistakes happen, Darrell treats them as a chance to learn. The team finds the root cause, builds a corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plan, and updates the operations manual. When a client issue comes up, the first step is always to tell everyone involved. The operations manager then makes sure the right product goes out quickly so the client's production isn't held up. Most issues are resolved within 24 to 48 hours.

A Team That Takes Pride in the Space

Darrell leads with clear direction and regular contact. He holds monthly check-ins, and the whole team meets twice a month. Those meetings always start and end with safety, and they close with a round robin so everyone can speak up.

Each person is assigned their own aisles to keep swept, clean, and tidy, and those aisles are graded every week. "That just helps everybody feel proud of the work that they do and the facility that we work in," Darrell says.

That pride shows in every shipment. Before an order leaves the building, drums are wiped clean, cartons are cleaned, and pallets are secured with plenty of shrink wrap.

Darrell has built more than a warehouse. He's built a team that takes ownership of every detail, cares for the facility like their own home, and treats every client's inventory with the same care.
